Week 3 Daily Card

Week+4.jpg

So you have been making Daily Cards for three whole weeks. Ideally you have a stack of twenty-one days of writing. Hopefully you have been scribbling down some quotes from these delicious readings. Now we are ready to add something new. You can do this during the course of your day, so it shouldn’t require anything other than remembering to do it. Which is certainly not nothing. Which is why it is on your checklist!

You’re Welcome.

You will be going on a slow walk.

That simply means, next time you go get the mail, walk the dog, or wait in line for something, take a minute or two to slow way down, feel your feet on the ground, and notice everything. Put yourself in super slow motion and really look at what is around you. Notice the moment your foot comes in contact with the ground. Notice how your weight shifts through your body as you move forward. What is happening around you? What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What do you feel? How is your balance?

Just a few minutes each day is enough. If you forget to walk before you get to writing practice, just stand up, take ten slow steps, and sit back down.

Why? Because part of writing is noticing and describing what rises around you. Sometimes we run short of words because we haven’t taken a moment to experience being where we are. Being a writer is a full bodied experience. Your body is your sensory organ for writing.

Note:

For those who will not be walking, meditative humming can help the experience of inhabiting the body. Feel the tidal motion of your breath, experience the buzz of the humming, use your senses to explore.
